Annual Conference 2026 – Early Bird Registrations Now Open!

I have great pleasure in announcing the launch of the GTAV Annual Conference 2026.

Our Annual Conference is one of the highlights of the year, bringing Geography educators together to share practice, exchange ideas, learn from one another, and return to the classroom feeling energised and inspired.
This year's theme, People, Change and Interconnections, provides a platform to explore Geography’s unique role in helping students make sense of an increasingly complex and interconnected world, while engaging with contemporary issues and real-world events at local, national and global scales.

This year, we are changing the format by commencing with Fieldwork Day on Thursday 13 August at a range of locations across Victoria. As a cornerstone of Geography teaching and learning, fieldwork offers authentic, hands-on experiences that bring the curriculum to life.

Participants can choose from four engaging fieldwork experiences, exploring topics ranging from the coastlines of Port Phillip Bay and the forests of Toolangi to urban fringe land-use change and the application of GIS at Melbourne Zoo.

Conference Day will be held on Friday 14 August at the stunning RACV City Club in Melbourne's CBD. The program features an inspiring Keynote Address by Belinda Collins, founder of Cumulate, who will explore how Geography shapes lives, opportunity and impact through powerful personal storytelling and global perspectives.

Delegates will also have access to 26 curriculum-aligned presentations across four breakout streams, an extensive partner and trade exhibition, networking opportunities, a social hour, and the chance to connect with leading Geography educators and thought leaders from across the sector.

We look forward to welcoming you to the GTAV Annual Conference 2026 for what promises to be an outstanding professional learning experience.

Early Bird registrations are now open and close on Sunday 28 June 2026, after which standard registration rates will apply.

2026 AGM

On Thursday 21 May, we held our Annual General Meeting. Reports were received by GTAV President Stephen Barrett, Treasurer Paul Turner, and Executive Officer Genevieve Newton. The annual report is well worth reading and a true celebration of what we have achieved in 2025.

If you are a current member, we encourage you to sign into the GTAV website and head to About/Annual General Meeting to download and read the 2025 Annual Report.

Upcoming Professional Learning Webinars

Have you registered for our upcoming PLW #5 on Rubrics for Geography to be held on Tuesday 2 June at 4:30pm.

Presented by GTAV Member Benjamin McManamny (Camberwell Girls Grammar School), this webinar is perfect for Years 7-10 teachers. The session will explore how rubrics can be used to drive both learning and assessment, with a focus on practical strategies for using rubrics to effectively diagnose students’ geographical knowledge and skills in the classroom.

We are also thrilled to have partnered with the Australian Centre for Career Education (ACCE) to present a webinar for careers teachers. Hosted by ACCE, Pathways in Geography: From Classroom Learning to Real-World Careers will feature guest speakers from the GTAV, RMIT University, Planning Institute Australia, and Yarra Ranges Council.

If you are looking for information to inspire your students or advocate for Geography as a subject at your school, we encourage you to register via the ACCE website
