Australian Geography Teachers Conference was held in Melbourne from 9 to 12 January 2017. The venue was the beautiful Parkville Campus of The University of Melbourne. The program included a pre-conference tour from 4 to 8 January 2017, keynote speakers including two leading international geography educators, workshops, fieldtrips and social program

  • A day to explore the changing face of the inner suburbs of Melbourne : Abbotsford and Collingwood
  • Observe, record and interpret a range of land use changes of the past, present and future.
  • Fieldtrip is led by Raymond Pask. Ray is a VCE Geography textbook author and VCE examiner. He will provide an in depth study of the area and explore its potential for fieldwork in VCE Unit 3.
  • Great ideas should also emerge for “Geographies of Human Wellbeing”

The final piece of the introduction of the new VCE Units 3 and 4 is the Examination Report.

Listen to Chief Assessor Marianne Ward, Chief Examiner Raymond Pask and other examination panel members:

  • outline how students responded to the paper,
  • identify questions students found difficult,
  • discuss common mistakes
  • provide an overview of the 2016 examination assessment.

Monica Bini VCAA Curriculum Manager (Humanities and Social Sciences) will be in attendance for consultation throughout the evening.

A convivial evening, with refreshments, not to be missed for all teachers of VCE Geography in 2017.

Opportunity will be provided for participants to ask questions and reflect on the implications for teaching in 2017.

Fieldwork Basics & Ideas Hampton Beach & Hampton St shopping strip

For teachers requiring more fieldwork experience e.g. out of field teachers / graduate / beginning teachers.

Learn how to conduct fieldwork including:

  • choosing appropriate field sites
  • collecting primary data
  • teaching students to interpret the landscape using basic technology to collect data

The day will be divided into two parts:

  1. a coastal study exploring natural coastal processes, environmental impacts and management
  2. an urban study comparing liveability for commercial and residential uses
